embabel uninstall

Take Embabel off this machine: everything the installer put here goes, and what you made stays. Before anything is touched it lists both — what will be removed, and what will be kept and why — and asks you to type yes.

Flag
--yes do not ask — for scripts that have already decided
--keep-images keep the Docker images and the local embedding model, to install again soon
--keep-dir keep the install folder

What goes: the appliance’s containers and volumes, sandbox containers it started, .env and the shared-folder override, the MCP registration that points at this appliance (and its marked token block in your shell profile), the embabel command and the PATH line setup added for it, the Docker images it downloaded and the local embedding model, and the install folder — with ~/embabel too, if that held nothing else.

What stays, named with its reason: a git repository you cloned into the realms folder; the install folder when it is a git working tree (a clone you develop in, which the installer did not create); ~/embabel-backups; images and the model while another Embabel appliance on this machine still uses them, or while a container that is not ours does; and any other program called embabel. That last one only ever removes the launcher THIS installation wrote — embabel is not a rare name, and uninstall reads the file before deleting it. If another embabel still answers afterwards, it says so, so the next which embabel does not look like a failed uninstall.

It needs nothing from the appliance itself, so it works from any state: setup never finished, the container stopped, unhealthy or missing, an image pull that failed halfway. It refuses only when Docker is installed but not running — the data is still in Docker then, and removing the settings would orphan it — and says so before touching anything.

When embabel is not this command — another program by that name comes first on your PATH — the installer says so at the end of the install and prints every command by its full path. Run it that way, or use the installer’s own way out, which needs neither:

Terminal window
~/embabel/worlds/embabel uninstall
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/embabel-worlds/appliance/main/install.sh | sh -s -- --uninstall

The one-liner downloads nothing. It finds the install already here — EMBABEL_HOME, else ~/embabel/worlds, else wherever the embabel launcher says it forwards to — and runs that install’s own uninstall, asking on your terminal even through curl | sh. --yes after --uninstall answers in advance; EMBABEL_INSTANCE=<name> before sh picks a named instance. On Windows:

Terminal window
& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://worlds.embabel.com/install.ps1))) --uninstall
